“Whatever good is done for good men is never done in vain” - Plautus

After meeting at Frankfurt airport, the doctors, nurses and medical students who participated in our mission in 2014, got ready for the departure for Myanmar. The luggage included 730 kg of medical tools like sewing material, bandages, medication and material donations for the children. We had to switch to a smaller plane again and again until we finally reached Myanmar, where a bus took us to the hotel. The next day, we immediately started our mission, visiting Sitagu Ayudana Hospital and meeting all the waiting patients. Not to waste any time, the staff already unpacked some of our medical luggage. We have to help as many children as possible, because for most of them we are the only chance of reducing suffering and living a better life. So many of them traveled for hours, even days.

Everyday we stood up at 5.30 in the morning. After admiring Myanmar’s beautiful landscape on the outward, we reached the hospital and started to work through our tight schedule, which was only possible because of the great assistance of the well experienced anesthetists from Göttingen, who prepared the patients for surgery.

The doctors visited the patients every morning, to check the healing process and medication. Every person got their own individual medical bag composed, including things like antibiotics and painkillers. The MIT managed to successfully treat 80 children and adults. The most common issues were cleft lip and palate and severe untreated scarring because of burns. In the end, the whole team was relieved to see all the positive results of the procedures and all the grateful people. Most of the brought in medical tools and medicals were left behind as a donation to the hospital.

We want to thank the local monks an the hospital’s staff, for always being ready to help and all the supporters and donors, who made this project possible in the first place!

Be part of it!
